staple&co stories: shelley, luella & sugar
Our very own Shelley Mason talks style and her Lennon sofa below.
Her sofa: Lennon Deep 2600 / Daytona Leather Col: Marble
"It was easy to turn it into more of a statement piece with the choice of leather we used"
How would you describe your interior style?
Modern, a little eclectic and very relaxed. I love natural materials and mixing textures and layers – lots of tonal colour. Ultimately, home for me needs to be beautiful, but very liveable and not too precious.
Why did you choose the Lennon?
I think it’s the most classic yet versatile shape of all the Staple&co designs and it was easy to turn it into more of a statement piece with the choice of leather we used. The style really suits the soft aniline leather that will wear extremely well over time giving it a lovely ‘lived-in’ look.
What do you like best about it?
The size (2600mm deep) is super-generous: you can fit a whole family on it! It's also big enough to use as a single bed for visitors if need be. The shape is hugely flexible and suits many different interior styles which is very handy, given that I own a shop I tend to change my style a bit.
Apart from the Lennon, what’s your favourite piece in the house and why?
It's not taking pride of place as yet as we’re about to renovate our home, but I bought my partner the FLOS String Light for his recent 40th Birthday. It’s truly the most beautiful thing (and I promise he loves it as much as I do…!).
France or Italy?
Italy, of course! I love the food, the way of life and the beautiful coastline.
Are you more of a minimalist or a maximalist?
A minimalist in training…
The last book you read?
The Casuals by Sally Breen. It's set in Brisbane in early '90s. I love a good modern Australian story, and this really resonated with my upbringing in the southern suburbs of Sydney.
Favourite café / restaurant?
I’ve recently moved to Sydney’s Inner West, so I have some new favourite places to eat. For breakfast, I like West Juliette in Marrickville. For dinner, Russo & Russo or Emma's Snack Bar in Enmore are great.
