oh, milano! by shelley mason
The annual Milan Furniture Fair or Salone Internazionale del Mobile di Milano is a Mecca for furniture designers, buyers and journalists from around the world. In 2013, I was lucky enough to be commissioned by The Home Journal to go there in person and report back on what I saw. Very exciting!
The year’s theme, Interiors Of Tomorrow, featured over 2500 exhibitors, each with their own take. There aren’t enough words/time/space to describe the thousands of utilitarian, sustainable, ridiculously expensive and even unusable conceptual pieces I saw, however, the coloured shadows of the CMYK bulb at Rosaria Orlandi, the inventive Twin’Z concept car by Renault, and the cheeky political references of the Austerity edible furniture by Lanzavecchia + Wai were highlights.
Oh Milano, you never fail to delight!
